Analysis of recent sulfur wet deposition and SO/sub 2/ emissions trends in Eastern North America

Conference · · Proc., Annu. Meet., Air Pollut. Control Assoc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5622652
This study applies some of the statistical techniques used by F.W. Lipfert et al. to 1977-1983 MAP3S precipitation chemistry data and to an SO/sub 2/ emissions database consisting of monthly SO/sub 2/ emissions from each U.S. electric utility, annual U.S. non-utility SO/sub 2/ emissions, and monthly and annual Canadian SO/sub 2/ emissions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relative importance of meteorological versus SO/sub 2/ emissions variables with respect to precipitation sulfate concentrations, to examine the relative importance of local versus distant SO/sub 2/ source regions on sulfate concentration, and to estimate the degree of linearity between regional SO/sub 2/ emissions and sulfate deposition in the northeastern U.S.
