Gas distributor approaches deregulation

Journal Article · · Public Util. Fortn.; (United States)

From the gas distributor's perspective, deregulation has simply substituted prohibitively high prices for the problem of shortages. For either reason, distributors still face the inability to sell gas. The structure of the gas industry insulates the producers from the realities of the retail marketplace. Unless government legislators or regulators remedy this situation - several market-ordering mechanisms have been proposed, the the distributors will bear an inordinate amount of pressure from consumers before the public's message reverberates to the gas pipeline companies and producers.
