The unvented room heaters described in this standard have input ratings up to 40,000 Btu/hr. To ensure the safe operation of such appliances in occupied rooms, the standard calls for the use of warning signs alerting the user to possible carbon monoxide poisoning and places limits on the temperatures of nearby walls and flooring as well as the heater surfaces.
