The suppression of stimulated hyper-Raman emission in Na due to parametric four-wave mixing

We show that an interference effect involving four-wave mixing can almost totally suppress predicted examples of stimulated hyper-Raman emission in the forward direction of a laser pump beam. The effect is demonstrated in Na vapor. 6 refs., 3 figs.
