Following the exploratory work of the first year of this project, the second year has seen firm progress in the understanding of the two primary systems studied, KTa/sub 1-x/Nb/sub x/O/sub 3/ and KMnF/sub 3/:Li. We have also devoted some time to the refinement of our ultrasonic capabilities and have in fact developed a new technique for the measurement of absolute sound velocity. Finally we have put together a Raman set up which is now close to being operative.
