We use LIF excitation, hole-burning two-color resonant four-wave mixing (TC-RFWM), and dispersed fluorescence (DF) to characterize the B {sup 2}A`` - X {sup 2}A`` system of jet-cooled CH{sub 2}CHO. The LIF and TC-RFWM excitation spectra reveal a large number of previously unobserved, weakly fluorescent bands. The collision-free lifetimes of 18 levels in the B state show a rapid increase in predissociation rate at {approximately}1100 cm{sup -1} above the origin, possibly due to vibronic interaction with the A {sup 2}A` or C {sup 2}A` states. High-resolution LIF spectra provide rotational constants for 6 levels in the B state that help confirm our vibrational assignments, particularly those involving out-of-plane (a``) overtones. The DF spectra, obtained from excitation of 7 levels in the B state, show evidence of extensive IVR that mixes optically bright and dark ground-state levels. In total, we assign 54 levels in the B state and 56 levels in the first 3100 cm{sup -1} of the X state, including the 6 a` fundamentals and 3 a`` overtones in both states.
