This paper presents data on two-photon production of a pair of vector mesons, and on resonance production of three pions. Vector pair production was studied in three channels: [gamma][gamma][r arrow][omega][rho], [gamma][gamma][r arrow][rho][phi], and [gamma][gamma][r arrow][omega][phi]. For the first channel also a partial-wave analysis was performed of the reaction [gamma][gamma][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][pi][sup [minus]][pi][sup 0]. The reaction [gamma][gamma][r arrow][rho][phi] was observed for the first time. There is also evidence for the reaction [gamma][gamma][r arrow][omega][phi]. The [gamma][gamma][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][pi][sup 0] reaction is dominated by the formation of [alpha][sub 2] in its helicity 2 state. A partial-wave analysis has revealed the [pi][sub 2](1670) state with a two-photon partial width of (0.25[plus minus]0.15) keV which is significantly lower than indicated by previous experiments. There is an indication for an additional peak at 1.8 GeV with a preferred spin-parity assignment 2[sup [minus]].
