Cano Limon reservoir properties suggest high recovery factor
The Cano Limon trap has updip closure against convergent, sealing, strike-slip faults. The Enocene Mirador sand is the main reservoir, comprising approximately 85% of the field's estimated ultimate recovery (EUR). The Mirador reservoir has an average net pay of 155 ft (43 m) consisting of unconsolidated sands with 24% average porosity and up to 7 darcies in situ core-measured permeability at an average depth of 7,300 ft (2,225 m). Significant but smaller oil reservoirs are in overlying Oligocene Carbonera and underlying Cretaceous sands. Combined net pay counts range to 347 ft. Porosities range over 30%, and unstressed core permeabilities range to 20 darcies. Interference tests reveal fieldwide communication except across the sealing Cano Limon fault. Occidental's drilling and completion operations are shown. To date, there are 24 oil completions on 1-km grid (247-acre spacing) plus one water injection well. Many more development locations are planned for 1986 and 1987. Mirador completions have flow capacities estimated at an average 14,000 b/d of 30/sup 0/ API gravity oil; thus, the field currently has a producing capacity exceeding 330,000 bo/d from the Mirador alone. Individual well tests exceed 20,000 bo/d. Current field output averages 30,000 bo/d. Upon final pipeline completion, scheduled for mid-1986, Occidental proposes a 200,000 bo/d field offtake. Mirador oil contains almost no dissolved gas, thus oil recovery will be influenced by effectiveness of an expected water drive and field sweep efficiency.
