Dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6 and its substituted derivatives have shown great promise for selective separations of such ions as Sr{sup 2+} and Pb{sup 2+}. There have been few, if any, reports, however, which detail the isomeric composition of the crown ether used in a particular investigation. As part of a detailed study on the effects of isomerism and substituents on the selectivity and efficacy of DCH18C6 extractants, we have investigated the crystal structures of several isomers of this crown ether and two isomers of its di-tert-butyl derivative. The structure of DCH18C6 (Isomer C), two polymorphs of DCH18C6 (B), DCH18C6{sm_bullet}2CH{sub 3}CN (B), ({sup t}Bu){sub 2}DCH18C6 (A), ({sup t}Bu){sub 2}DCH18C6{sm_bullet}2CH{sub 3}CN (B), [(NH{sub 4})(DCH18C6)]Cl{sm_bullet}H{sub 2}O (A), and [Pb(OH{sub 2}){sub 2}(DCH18C6)][ClO{sub 4}]{sub 2} (B) will be discussed in this presentation. These structures will be compared with several other DCH18C6 complexes of Sr{sup 2+} and Pb{sup 2+} reported in the literature.
