In PSR 0809+74 both the difference and the ratio of the energies of successive subpulses tend to increase with their instantaneous drift rate D/sub i/. At D/sub i/roughly-equalD-bar/sub i/ the energy ratio changes abruptly. The subpulse energy and D/sub i/ are correlated on a time scale roughly-equal(1--2)P/sub 1/.
