Fluidized-bed boilers seen gaining acceptance by users

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)

Atmospheric fluidized-bed (AFB) boiler installations are increasing at a time when the boiler market as a whole is severely depressed. With no expenses for scrubbers, AFB boilers cost 10 to 15% less. Operating costs are also lower because they require less manpower. Continued testing by DOE is helping to increase user confidence in AFB reliability and versatility to handle alternative fuels. Users describe their installations and expenses. A directory lists 37 major suppliers of multi-fuel boilers. (DCK)
