Cross sections for the reactions /sup 59/Co(e,e'n)/sup 58m/,g Co and /sup 59/Co(. gamma. , n)/sup 58m/,g Co in the energy region 150--225 MeV

The induced-activity method has been used to measure absolute cross sections for photo- and electrodisintegration of /sup 59/Co with excitation of the ground and isomeric states of /sup 58/Co and also the ratio of the cross sections sigma/sub Q//sigma/sub e/ per equivalent quantum and per electron. Comparison of experiment with theory indicates an appreciable contribution of quadrupole absorption in the (e, e'n) reaction. This is confirmed also by analysis of the relative cross sections for production of the isomers /sup 58m/,gCo in photo- and electrodisintegration of /sup 59/Co.
