Volatilization experiments on U decay chain nuclides and Th involving the addition of CaCl{sub 2} to a basanite and heating sequentially at 1,300C were performed. The results indicate loss of {sup 210}Pb with Na and K at low Cl concentrations and {sup 226}Ra with Fe at considerably higher Cl concentrations. {sup 238}U, {sup 230}Th and {sup 232}Th were not lost by volatilization even at the highest Cl concentrations.
