Perdurance of higher-dimensional de Sitter space

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)
We investigate the classical and semiclassical stability of higher-dimensional de Sitter spaces. The Lifshitz-Khalatnikov perturbative formalism is extended to an arbitrarily higher-dimensional closed Robertson-Walker universe. It is shown that, quite independently of the number of spacetime dimensions, higher-dimensional de Sitter spaces are classically stable to the generalized cosmological perturbations. Some discussion is added that shows that, in the realm of the Euclidean formulation of quantum gravity, these spaces exhibit a semiclassical instability.
