The pulsation behavior of the Delta Scuti variables is characterized, reviewing recent observational and theoretical investigations. The theoretical masses, radii, and luminosities of the stars are listed in a table; three equilibrium models (deep radiative, shallow radiative, and convective) of linear radial and nonradial pulsations are described; the implementation of hydrodynamic simulations with these models is explained; and preliminary results are presented in graphs and discussed in detail. No evidence is found for the large amplitudes predicted by Stellingwerf (1979) on the basis of periodic solutions. 15 refs.
