Recently, a large amount of resources has been directed to the study of the various problems and procedures related to deep well stimulation design. These studies have resulted in a major increase in the state-of-the-art of these design procedures. Probably the most significant break throughs have been in defining and understanding the mechanics of acid fracturing and the associated fracture etching profiles. In addition, break throughs have been made which allow the mathematical calculation of cool down temperatures in the wellbore and out in the fracture itself. These techniques allow accurate prediction of the acid reaction rates in the fractures and the inhibitor requirements in the tubular goods. All of these theoretical developments have been computer programed and these programs are available to accurately and rapidly design optimum stimulation procedures for the deep Anadarko Basin wells. A typical design study of an example well is presented. One of the most important factors to be considered in deep well stimulation design is the corrosion protection of the tubular goods with inhibitors. In the Anadarko Basin area, the common practice is to use organic inhibitors.
