Some notes on the practical application of the IMCO gas carrier code to pressure vessel type cargo tanks

Although the Intergovernmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO) Gas Carrier Code for new ships is fairly specific, its practical application necessarily varies from one situation to another, especially when very fine details are involved. Germanischer Lloyd explains how to apply the code when building pressure-vessel (type-C) cargo tanks. Some of the items discussed (for example, mechanical-stress- and pressure-relieving systems) are still under consideration at IMCO and at the International Association of Classification Societies.
