Complex spin-orbit potential for /sup 208/Pb(n,n) /sup 208/Pb at 10 MeV

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
The analyzing power A/sub y/(theta) and differential cross section sigma(theta) have been measured for elastic scattering of 10-MeV neutrons from /sup 208/Pb. These data were analyzed with a spherical optical model (SOM) which has a real spin-orbit (SO) potential with either a three-parameter conventional form or a one-parameter semimicroscopic form. The predictions with both SO potentials reproduce the data equally well, suggesting that fewer free parameters can be used in SOM calculations. Including an imaginary SO term W/sub SO/(r) in the optical potential greatly improves the fits to the A/sub y/(theta) measurements and establishes the need for W/sub SO/(r)not =0 in the n+/sup 208/Pb potential.
