Search for K sub L sup 0 r arrow. mu. e and K sub L sup 0 r arrow ee decays
- National Laboratory for High Energy Physics (KEK), Tsukuba, Ibaraki 305, Japan (JP)
We report on the present status of a search for the rare decays {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}{mu}e and {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}ee at the KEK 12-GeV Proton Synchrotron. We found no {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}{mu}e or {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}ee events and found 54 {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}{mu}{mu} events. The upper limits of the {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}{mu}e and {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}ee branching ratios are {ital B}({ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}{mu}e){lt}4.3{times}10{sup {minus}10} and {ital B}({ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}ee){lt}5.6{times}10{sup {minus}10} at 90% confidence level. The 54 {ital K}{sub {ital L}}{sup 0}{r arrow}{mu}{mu} events correspond to an absolute branching ratio of (8.4{plus minus}1.1){times}10{sup {minus}9}.
