We consider an enlarged model containing both the Maxwell and Chern-Simons terms, which was recently shown to present self-dual solitons. Some comments on the very specific form of the potential for self-duality to apply are introduced. We also investigate some systems in which the Maxwell term is absent from the gauge field action. In particular, we calculate the first corrections to the energy of the Chern-Simons solitons near the self-dual point.
