The Economic Commisson for Europe is a United Nations regional instrument used by its member governments (European states, United States, and Canada) for the promotion of international trade, scientific and technological cooperation, policymaking aimed at long-term economic growth, and improvement of the environment. The study identifies the consequences of the energy crisis, or of any other new developments since 1973/1974, on the demand for and supply of coal in the ECE region, and describes related government policies as formulated during 1975-1976. The five parts of the report are: Perspectives of the Coal Industry in the Various Countries; Perspectives of the Coal Industry in Western EuroPe; perspectives of the Coal Industry in North America; Perspectives of the Coal Industry in Eastern Europe Including the USSR; and perspectives of the Coal Industry in the ECE Region as a whole and in the World.
