This hearing reviewed the National Coal Council's Reserve Data Base Report regarding the quality and recoverability of coal reserves. The report pointed out problem areas in the collection and tabulation of the information and raised a question about its reliability and accuracy for decision making on policies such as acid rain and clean coal technologies. Testimony was heard from 11 witnesses, representatives of the coal industry, US Geological Survey, Department of Energy, Kentucky Geological Survey, and representatives from Kentucky and Montana.
