Project Rio Blanco. Exhibits: informal public hearings, Denver, Colorado, March 27-28, 1972

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5585890

The Oil Shale Corporation is opposed to Project Rio Blanco which plans to use underground nuclear explosions for natural gas production stimulation because it believes the risk from such detonations as damage to oil shale and mineral deposits near the Rio Blanco site exceed the value of the recoverable gas produced. Statements and written evidence presented to the US AEC to support the Shale Oil Corp.'s position are presented. Information is included on the geologic characteristics of the area, seismic and environmental effects of the contemplated explosion, and economic feasibility of Rio Blanco as compared with potential cost of damage to oil shale deposits.
