The ternary compound LaFe/sub 4/P/sub 12/ having a ''filled skutterudite'' structure is a superconductor with T/sub c/ = 4.08 K. We have used the Moessbauer effect of /sup 57/Fe to show that the magnetic moment of Fe in LaFe/sub 4/P/sub 12/ is less than 0.01..mu../sub B/. The value of the measured isomer shift indicates a spin-paired 3d configuration of Fe. The temperature dependence of the shift and the resonance fraction are used to establish a weak coupling of 3d electrons with the phonons, the coupling parameter being about 0.4 to 0.5.
