Development of an annular, low NOx, gas turbine combustor

The design and initial rig testing of a natural gas-fired, low NO/sub chi/ gas turbine combustor prototype are described. Earlier work had demonstrated the effectiveness of the combustion concept in reducing NO/sub chi/ emissions through tests of a single swirler/injector module in a cylindrical combustor. The reported work represents the first performance evaluation of a multiple swirler/injector combustor and the first assessment of the annular geometry. Maximum program emissions goals were established. Comparisons between the single module can combustor tests and the three module annular sector tests are presented.
