The author presents a method for solving the quark-antiquark bound state problem using the Bethe-Salpeter equation. They reduce the Bethe-Salpeter equation to a form which allows the numerical evaluation of the mass spectrum. They find good agreement with the data for b anti b and c anti c systems. The theoretical disagreement for lighter quark systems raises some fundamental questions concerning the use of the Bethe-Salpeter formalism as applied to relativistic systems.
