String vertex on the Grassmann manifold

The vertex operator of the three-bosonic-string interaction of Della Selva and Saito is shown to be an element of the universal Grassmann manifold. The correspondence between string theories and soliton theories is made explicit through the transformation of evolution parameters of solitons to string coordinates, the same transformation which relates Fay's trisecant formula to Hirota's bilinear difference equation.
