Electron-photon transport using the EGS4 Monte Carlo code

Conference · · Trans. Am. Nucl. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5580236
The EGS (Electron Gamma Shower) code system was formally introduced in 1978 as a package, most commonly referred to as EGS3. It was designed to simulate electromagnetic cascades in various geometries and at energies up to a few thousand gigaelectron volts and down to cutoff kinetic energies of 0.1 MeV (photons) and 1 MeV (electrons). There have been many requests to extend EGS3 down to lower energies and this is a major, but not the only, reason for creating EGS4, which is now available for general distribution and is the subject of this presentation.
