Four-day old ducklings were fed Prudhoe Bay crude oil, the dispersant Corexit, or both. Hematocrits were determined and plasma analyzed for glucose, total proteins, triglycerides, cholesterol, sodium and activities of ornithine carbamyl transferase and alanine aminotransferase. Results show that mallard ducklings can probably ingest low levels of dispersant alone, or in combination with crude oil, for nine weeks without overt or marked biochemical indications of toxicity.
