The authors report the chemical preparation and some preliminary reaction chemistry of [Cp[sup *]Rh([mu]-Cl)][sub 2] (1) (Cp[sup *] = C[sub 5]Me[sub 5]), a Rh(II) dimer with a reactive Rh-Rh bond. While many Rh(II) complexes containing Rh-Rh bonds have been reported in the literature, including several analogues of 1, the high reactivity of the Rh-Rh bond in 1 is remarkable and has allowed this group to prepare several unusual products.
