Buckminsterfullerene (C[sub 60]) reacts with cyclopentadiene to produce the Diels-Alder adduct C[sub 60]C[sub 5]H[sub 6] (1). To determine the thermal stability of adduct 1, we have determined the rates of decomposition in the temperature range 80-95[degree]C. Fitting this data to the Arrhenius form of the rate expression gives a pre-exponential factor of log A = 12.59 [plus minus] 0.4 and an activation energy of 26.7 [plus minus] 2.2 kcal/mol. 14 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.
