Superconducting fluctuation diamagnetism above T sub c in YBa sub 1 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 , La sub 1. 8 Sr sub 0. 2 CuO sub 4 , and Bi sub 2 minus x Pb sub x Sr sub 2 CaCu sub 2 O sub 8+. delta

Magnetic susceptibility data are presented for the title compounds. All show negative curvature below {similar to}2{ital T}{sub {ital c}}. Data for grain-aligned YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7} are in excellent agreement with a new calculation of the superconducting fluctuation diamagnetism. We infer {ital s}-wave pairing and Ginzburg-Landau coherence lengths {xi}{sub {ital ab}}(0)=13.6{plus minus}0.8 A and {xi}{sub {ital c}}(0)=1.23{plus minus}0.19 A. Both of the order-parameter bands are found to be essential in the fit. Part of the above negative curvature is inferred to arise from the normal-state background.
