Selective determination of cobalt in steels, alloys, and minerals by spectrophotometric titration
This paper addresses the problem of determining cobalt in steels, alloys, and minerals. Spectrophotometric titration was performed on a SF-16 spectrophotometer in a cell with a layer thickness of 30 mm. The method used was based on the formation of outer cobalt (III) nitrite complex anions with barium ions. The curves obtained in the titration of the anionic complexes of cobalt are shown and the range of cobalt determination is 3-1200 ..mu..g/15 ml. 1000-fold excesses of iron and nickel do not interfere in the determination; in most other methods such an excess makes the determination of cobalt difficult. The method presented is selective, sensitive and rapid for the determination of cobalt in steels, alloys and minerals.
