Radiative processes in astrophysics

Book ·
OSTI ID:5574308
An introduction to the radiation processes that occur in space. The subject matter is fundamental to astrophysics and space science, and includes radiative transfer theory, relative convariance and kinematics, bremsstrahlung radiation, synchrotron radiation, Compton scattering, some plasma effects, and radiative transistions in atoms and molecules. The author's treatment of the subject develops physical intuition in the reader. For most every topic is developed from first principles, physically motivating and deriving all results rather than merely presenting the reader with finished formulae. There are 75 problems, with solutions, illustrating the applications of radiative processes to astrophysical phenomena and the methods for calculating results.
