Competition between fission and neutron emission at high spins and excitation energies

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
The influence of deformation changes at high spins and excitation energies on the competition between fission and neutron emission is studied in the framework of the statistical theory for /sup 210/Po and /sup 232/U. It is found that the shell effects at high spins strongly affect the competing processes if the height of the fission barrier is comparable with the neutron separation energy. In this case the rate GAMMA/sub f//GAMMA/sub n/ is influenced by the rotation mainly through the change of the saddle point deformation.
