The data on the differential cross section and polarization for the reaction ..pi../sup -/p-italic..--> pi../sup o-italic/n-italic and on ..delta..sigma = sigma/sub t//sub o//sub t/(..pi../sup -/p-italic) : sigma/sub t//sub o//sub t/ (..pi../sup +/p-italic) are not precise enough to distinguish between the conventional pole-plus-cut model and the unconventional model based on the maximal odderon asymptotic behavior. The amplitude analysis performed by using both the models also gives results which are consistent with those obtained from the experimental data. It is shown that the measurements of differential cross section and polarization at 400 GeV/c and 100 GeV/c or above, respectively, will be decisive in determining the validity of either of these models.
