The purpose of this book is to help the reader learn the programming language LISP by experimenting with it via an interactive computer terminal. The recommended method is to read a chapter or two, sit down at a terminal, and try the examples and exercises in those chapters. The exercises have been written so that it is reasonable to expect the student to do all of them. The discussion is limited to features common to all LISPs, leaving dialect-dependent features for advanced study.
