Shock waves in a rotating, gravitating gaseous disk

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. Lett. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5568647
A new type of shock wave that can exist only in a self-gravitating system is analyzed. The treatment is illustrated by a simplified model spiral galaxy: a rotating, gravitating gaseous disk. In such a disk the oscillatory structure of the shock front will depend on the viscosity of the gravitating gas.
