The Bombay High offshore oil and gas production project is the largest technical undertaking being carried out by the Indian Government. The project is being carried out by the Oil and Natural Gas Commission of India (ONGC) with Engineers India, Ltd. (EIL) as engineer. Oil and gas production technology is being furnished largely by foreign vendors, at least for the early phases of the work. Four major platforms were installed in the 1986, and offshore oil production was projected to reach 400,000 BCD in 1987. Coproduced natural gas will ultimately amount to almost 1.5 billion cubic feet per day, which will be treated on shore at Hazira on the western coast of India about 150 miles north of Bombay. The first phase of the MDEA scrubbing equipment has been completed and placed in service, and the Phase I LO-CAT units are expected to come on line in 1988.
