Guidelines are presented for selecting, installing and operating solar heating systems utilizing Sunlite collectors to assist do-it-yourself projects. The basic operation and components of solar energy systems are described and the applications to solar space heating, domestic hot water heating, and swimming pool or spa heating are cited. Mathematical equations are provided for calculating the appropriate number of collectors, the size of heat storage, and other sizing parameters and considerations. Recommendations for proper orientation and mounting options for installing the solar collectors and shading considerations are given. Lists of components and materials for various do-it-yourself solar energy projects are provided, means of locating stores selling the required equipment are recommended. Diagrams are provided for the operating schematic of various solar space heating, water heating, and swimming pool or spa heating systems. Installation guidelines, precautions, and testing procedures are also reviewed. Equipment suppliers are listed.
