Development and preliminary evaluation of modified Savitzky-Golay smoothing functions

Modifications to the second-derivative terms of Savitzky-Golay digital filters are presented. The modified terms eliminate undesirable spectroscopic features. Neodymium solution and mercury pen light absorbance are examined using unmodified and modified digital filters. A significant reduction in high-frequency oscillatory behavior is found when using the modified function.
