Spectral studies following electron capture in slow ion-atom collisions are reported for the collision systems Kr[sup q+]+He (q=7, 8, 9) at 10 keV/q. The work introduces part of the spectroscopy program beginning at the University of Uppsala ECR ion source facility. Some problems in spectroscopy which can be simplified using electron capture type studies are discussed. In particular a search for the 3d[sup 10] 4p--3d[sup 9] 4s[sup 2] transitions in Cu-like Kr VIII is reported.
