Selected state and territory ground-water classification systems. Final report

The purpose of this document is to review state development of ground-water classification schemes for determining the level of protection needed to maintain designated use and quality of ground-water resources. Criteria used for the classification of aquifers varies, but includes ground-water quality, yield, vulnerability to contamination, hydrogeologic setting, and stresses put on the aquifer by the population. Several state and territory classification schemes are examined, as are related water-quality standards.
