Gasbuggy status report

Journal Article · · Trans. Am. Nucl. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5563312

The 26-kt nuclear device for the Gasbuggy gas reservoir stimulation experiment was detonated at a depth of 4,240 ft on Dec. 10, 1967. During the next month, the emplacement hole was re-entered to a depth of 3,916 ft and completed as a gas well. Gas samples were collected periodically until June for radioactivity and chemical analyses. The new data developed from GB-2RS and the production testing are presented. This well was one of the 2 preshot exploratory wells drilled at the Gasbuggy site. The well had to be sidetracked (hence the capital S) to reach target depth. The production data include wireline logs, pressures, temperatures, radioactivity, and chemical composition. Interpretations in terms of chimney volume, fracturing of the medium, and comparison with preshot predictions are presented to the extent warranted by the data. A summary is given of more recent data, and an outline of current and planned activities.
