Camera pig: new development for in-service line inspection

Journal Article · · Pipe Line Ind.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5559338
The development of the camera-pig internal inspection system entailed two distinct phases. Phase I called for the design of a photographic device powered by a battery-operated crawler for the generation of quality pictures of a pipeline in an off-stream mode. Phase II involved adapting the camera system to both on-stream and off-stream environments with the use of a tow pig. The developed and successfully tested device can inspect the pipe wall for erosion-corrosion at pipe bends, pitting at circumferential welds, and heat-affected areas.
