Synthetic fuels from eastern Devonian oil shales

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5558603
Work has shown that if retorted in hydrogen the eastern Devonian oil shales are a viable source of synthetic liquid or gaseous fuels. Experimental work, in equipment capable of processing up to 1 ton/h of shale, has confirmed the technical and economic feasibility of the HYTORT Process for aboveground hydroretorting of oil shales. Work conducted to date on a number of eastern shales indicates that hydrogen retorting can give organic carbon recoveries from 2 to 2.5 times those of conventional retorting.
