Photovoltaic intermediate applications

Intermediate applications for on site photovoltaic systems range in size from approx. 20 kW to well over 1 MW and cover a variety of users including commercial, industrial, agricultural, multi-family residential, municipal, and others. This paper discusses results of recent studies in each of these sectors. Characteristics of the load profiles and economic parameters for different users are described along with energy consumption data for the different applications. Preliminary assessments of favorable photovoltaic applications and their economic viability are made and preferred system configurations discussed. Other features of intermediate applications and loads which impact photovoltaic designs are highlighted.
