The evolution of the so-called nuclear debate from the late 1960s to the present time is reviewed, and the current manifestations of the antinuclear movement in many countries are described. Despite the emergence of pronuclear groups and discussions in many countries, the author concludes that public education is the crux of the problem, and he discusses the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the nuclear debate.
