Space-age distribution: SCADA saves time and money

Journal Article · · Public Power; (United States)
OSTI ID:5553735

The Bristol (Tenn.) Electric System found that electric utilities can use such space-age technology as the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, a microprocessor-based unit connected by telephone lines to remote terminals at substations. The article describes how Bristol planned for the system and how SCADA works. The SCADA monitoring saves time and money by alerting the dispatcher of problems and helping to maintain service by controlling circuits while crews are working on the lines. (DCK)
