Angular correlation functions have been measured in the reactions {sup 11}B({alpha},{ital t}{gamma}) and {sup 10}B({alpha},{ital d}{gamma}) at {ital E}{sub {alpha}} =25 MeV. All components of the spin tensors of the density matrix of the 4.44-MeV (2{sup +}) state of the {sup 12}C nucleus have been determined by a model-independent method. Populations of the substates of this level and orientation tensors of the quadrupole and hexadecapole moments of the nucleus have been determined from the experimental data. Theoretical calculations have been carried out by the distorted-wave method with finite interaction range.
